Kathmandu, July 17: The Educational Consultancy Association of Nepal (ECAN) has demanded the government that it amended the new provisions on operation and management of educational consultancy, language instruction and preparation class.

The government recently brought the Educational Consultancy, Language Instruction and Preparation Classes (Operation and Management) Regulations, 2083. ECAN argued it was introduced without consulting the stakeholders.

ECAN demanded the government to cancel the provision of Rs 2.5 million as deposit to run the consultancies. It has been staging a nationwide protest against the new provision, according to Dipak Gurung, chair of a joint struggle committee. Such hefty deposit to run consultancy is not practical, he added.

According to him, more the 1,000 consultancy entrepreneurs would be affected by this scheme. The concerned entrepreneurs staged a peaceful protest bearing placards in Kathmandu on Friday.

The new regulation was issued by the Ministry of Education on July 8 in a bid to regulate consultancy business.
